Kakia Skala
In the northeastern part of the island, in an area of 21km2, from the coast (Livada) to an altitude of 540m (Volax), a superficial spread of granite volumes appears. Magmatic activity was manifested by the penetration of a plutonite (18-23 million years ago), ie the magma of the earth's interior penetrates the outer solid crust. From the moment granite appears on the surface, it is affected by climate change (erosion, dissolution, disintegration), something that affects every rock, until it is transformed into soil. So granite crumbles to the ground - slowly and hardly because it contains quartz. The spherical shape it acquires during its disintegration is its typical normal shape in such cases. The area is characteristically different from the rest of the island due to the granite boulders of spherical or approximately spherical shape that are scattered throughout the area and make an impression. Small fields in terraces and nearby gardens, stone fences, paths, and threshing floors characterize the area. Small fields in terraces and gardens nearby, stone fences, paths, and threshing floors complete the landscape. The two parts of this location are production points. For detailed information on the productions, see the following presentation.
